ERPAT Conducted in Davao City

erpatDSWD-ARMM, in its bid to reinforce the socio-economic development of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries throughout all provinces of ARMM, conducted a four-day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Empowerment and Reaffirmation of Paternal Abilities Training (ERPAT) on January 27 to February 1, 2013 in Davao City.

Held at the El Bahada Hotel, the TOT was participated in by 160 Municipal Social Welfare Officers/Municipal In-Charges from the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao Sur-A and B, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi and Basilan. The training was funded by the Stimulus Fund Program as part of the convergence efforts among programs/projects now being implemented in ARMM.

The trainees would then train fathers of 4Ps family beneficiaries on how to be a responsible and effective parenting as fathers of their families. Among the important topics discussed by various Resource Persons who are authorities for the topics assigned to them are: Accepting Your Role as a Father with subtopic on (1) Importance of Father Image (2) Development of Paternal Identity and (3) Knowing and Understanding Your Role as a Father; Becoming Your Wife’s Best Friend with subtopics on (1) Understanding Differences Between Men and Women (2) Improving Relationship with My Wife (3) Sexuality in Marriage and (4) Responsible Parenthood Through Planned Family Size; Father as Child Givers with subtopics on (1) Understanding the Development Stages of Children (2) Responding to the Growth and Development Needs of Children and Adolescents (3) Raising Children in Gender Sensitive Ways and (4) Responding to Child’s Right and Responsibilities.

 Other vital topics are: Understanding Myself as a Person with subtopics on (1) Understanding Myself and (2) Building Positive Self-Esteem; and Father as Advocates in the Prevention of Family Violence with subtopics on (1) Understanding Family Violence (2) Preventing Violence in the Home and (3) Father’s Role in Preventing Family Violence in the Community; and Parenting in Islamic Perspective.

In their messages to the activity, OIC Regional Vice-Governor and Concurrent Regional Secretary Hadja Bainon G. Karon and her Assistant Regional Secretary Hadja Pombaen Karon-Kader both, in a nutshell, articulated the imperative need for the participants/trainees to religiously trained fathers of 4Ps family-beneficiaries in their respective municipalities for the Pantawid Pamilya to gain more breakthroughs this year onward.

The last three hours of the training was devoted to the formulation of an Action Plan by each trainee, which plan would serve as their guide in the conduct of the same training in their respective municipalities. (Abs E. Mama, AO-V/Regional Information Officer)
