Basilan Senior Citizens Receive Monthly Cash Aid

Around 2,000 Indigent Senior Citizens from the municipalities of Tipo-Tipo and Al-Barka in Basilan recently received their monthly pension for February and March. The Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC) is a monthly cash aid of five hundred pesos (P500.00) from the government to augment the daily subsistence and other medical needs of indigent senior citizens. For the 12 municipalities of Basilan, DSWD-ARMM is assisting 13,483 indigent senior citizens, regularly receiving the monthly pension.

As indicated in the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 or RA 9994, the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens is an additional government assistance which aims to: improve the condition of indigent senior citizens by augmenting their daily subsistence and medical needs; reduce incidence of hunger; and protect them from neglect, abuse, deprivation and natural and man-made disasters.
