Mrs. Armina Marohom, a beneficiary of Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps) has lots to say about the advent of the program in their lives in terms of transforming their living condition, which she aptly she termed as ‘in abject poverty.’ She describes 4Ps as a saviour. He defines the program as amazing, is educational in all social aspects- health, sanitation, skills development, etc.
She said that the conditional cash grant of the program contributed a great deal for the well-being of their four children in terms of education and health. For one, their daughter Aira, who is now in 4th year high school, is a beneficiary of Expanded Students Grant in Aid for Poverty Alleviation (ESGP-PA) program of DSWD (the program is granted for those students who are eagerly desirous and committed to pursue college education.)
But, the financial assistance of the program through a conditional cash grant is just an instant respond to an urgent need of the poorest family like us, she said. But beyond that is what we have longed for: an empowerment and enlightenment on how family could hope for a better or brighter, which 4Ps has deeply engrained in the fabrics of moral lives and values, she adds (the translation of what the beneficiary said in local dialect is not an exact in English translation- only proximity).
By regularly attending Family Development Session (FDS), she said that she was able to acquire knowledge and skills, such as: on how to strengthen family relationship, functional literacy and livelihood skills development.
Mrs. Marohom was trained on dress-making through the Skills Enhancement Training sponsored by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-ARMM). Now, she has a tailoring that provides her family an income.
What matters most, she said, is the community awareness sessions of the FDS enabled her to become more socially conscious and to get involved and actively participate in community undertakings. She is now an active member of the newly organized Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina, Inc. (KALIPI) of the municipality, an organization, which advocates and promotes the social protection and welfare of women, and their positive image as equal partners in development being with the same innate potentialities and abilities as men in almost all aspects of human development endeavors.
